So basically I lost shadowmere maybe 20 levels back I'm now level 47. I looked it up online and every response I got was that she would turn up randomly. 20 levels later and there's still no sight of her. Does anyone know what might be the solution?

I was missing Shadowmere for quite awhile, then the other day I walked to Markarth and there he/she? was standing outside the city. If the horse died I've heard that it takes 30 in game days for it to respawn. If you don't think it died, perhaps you can try visiting all the hold stables. Now Shadowmere just hangs around behind the stable at the Heljarchen Hall I built.

I think the respawn rate has to do with in game time rather then levels achieved.

As a family we have lost Shadowmere more than once.
In one game I lost shadowmere at about level 48 ish. I thought she/he was dead. and a glitch non respawn. I spent about 10 hours here and there looking for shadowmere. I went to stables, sanctuary, last place seen etc. Gave up Low and behold on level 81 on the PS3 hunting sabre cats for Heathfire before I got it cause I knew I needed them. I find Shadowmere fighting 3 frost trolls near Sarthal - I had lost Shadowmere near Snow veil sanctum. I lost Shadowmere in about june ish last year and found her in Jan while looking for stuff I would need for DLC. My daughter also lost and found Shadowmere but in a two week interval on Xbox, again. Shadowmere was in a fight when found - this time with some bears.

Although I have never read of confirmed this, I suspect this is one of the things that starts Shadowmere disapearing. Shadowmere sees something that it thinks must die and pursues it. I have chased Shadowmere halfway across the map of skyrim when she got it in for a deer one day.
The only thing I can say for this is that both times we heard feint distant fighting and went to investigate

I've found similar answers to this but it just hasn't seemed to be working. I walked pretty much the entire map of skyrim looking but I think she might have died. I'll keep checking though just in case. Thank you for the advice!

Thank you for the reply! I'll try looking by all the major cities and stables again

If Shadowmere stops showing up with you whenever you fast travel after you "lose" him, it's possible that he died. When Shadowmere dies he respawns where he died 10 days later and he won't move from there. The normal rules for respawning apply so entering the area where he died within the 10 days will reset the respawning period. If you have no idea where that might be there's not a lot you can do on the game console versions of the game. The best you can do is hangout in a city for 10 days and then hope you run into him wherever he died as you play the game.

You didn't happen to mount another horse, summon and mount Arvak or when you lost Shadowmere, were you close to some steep incline or cliff? It's possible he could've fell and died. Same thing happened to me outside the Abandoned Prison. Did you have Detect Life with you when travelling the map?

Sorry about your poor Shadowmere. I've lost her a few times, but she always reappeared next to me after I fast traveled somewhere. Are you in Solstheim? I doubt you would be at level 47, but horses don't tend to follow you there.

I agree about the aggressiveness of that horse...she sees a bandit 50 miles away and takes off as soon as I dismount. It's how she manages to get lost in my game, at least, but I'm not sure about the console version. :/

I had Shadowmere appear at the old Dark Brotherhood sanctuary the other day. I was on Harvak, riding on the path, and there he was. Thing is now, Shadowmere is no longer as tough as he used to be, before he got killed weeks ago. He used to be a decent tank, but not he can easily be killed. So I quit looking for him now, and just ride Harvak.

I lost Shadowmere for about a month...and I was about to quit looking for the horse. I decided to look around the area where the black spawn pond is. I found Shadowmere in a bush close to the pond. Shadowmere respawned but not in the pond. Try looking around the area.

I had lost Shadowmere for a long time too, probably for about 20 levels. I would occasionally run past, or fast travel to, the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary in Falkreath many times but with no success. I would search the area nearby, because one time I found him battling a Frost-bite Spider near the bridge ambush west of Falkreath, and the place I thought he might have died up at Arcwind Point, using both Aura Whisper and good old fashioned legwork but this time to no avail. I was near to giving up any hope this time. My last resort was coming back here for possible strategies on finding him.

What finally worked for me was fast travelling to Winterhold, Riften, and Whiterun stables, then to Falkreath. When I walked to the Sanctuary there he was standing, right where the Penitus Oculatus agent should have been. I was completely unprepared to see him there after so long, but happy to see my old friend once again.

I have no solid evidence, but I think the travelling to the stables is what prompted the respawn at the Sanctuary. Maybe if someone has lost him they could try this out to see if they have success too.

I can second this method. I did this almost exactly when my Shadowmere disappeared after using a regular horse I bought from Markarth around Skyrim and Arvak in Solstheim. Only difference is I tried a 30 day reset before trying this method. After all that (doing what it says above), I waited 48 hours in front of the black pool where Shadowmere first spawns, and she re-appeared above the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. Like, on top of the rock that overhangs the Black Door. Haven't had problems since then, though I've been extra careful.
Oh and I also have a theory as to what else may cause this. I had what I think is known as the "immortal horse" glitch. It's the one where the first horse you buy can not die, in the regular sense. He can die but another version will spawn of him. Unless, in my opinion, you kill him. Sucks but what can you do? :/ I think that may be part of what causes Shadowmere to disappear. Just a theory though.

Shadowmere appears (after dying) back at the black pool outside the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary in Falkreath, where you first meet her. I had the same problem before, but when I came back to the sanctuary for a mission, Shadowmere was there waiting for me outside, and after I rode her again, she would fast travel with me whenever I do so.
